Adderbury Parish Council - Precept 2024/20225

Posted 4 weeks ago (02/04) by Theresa Goss

Adderbury Parish Council – Precept 2024/2025

The Parish Council's Precept for 2023/2024 was £55,264 and was increased to £69,080 for 2024/2025.

The Parish Council felt it needed to increase the Precept to cover the cost of its increasing bills.   Many other Parish Councils have also increased their Precepts for 2024/2025, as well as having much larger reserves than Adderbury.  The increase this year is partly necessary because Adderbury has not increased its Precept by very much in recent years, in an effort to help keep down household bills for residents.

Although the percentage increase appears large for the Parish Council's part of the annual Council Tax bill, the figure per household is quite low at £51.09 for a band D property, which equates to less than £1 per week.  As residents will be aware, Band D is the reference point for reporting a Council Tax increase, as an indicator of the average cost.

The Parish Council has been advised by the Oxfordshire Association of Local Councils that it should use the Precept to cover all of its budgetary costs for the services it provides in the village.  The Parish Council should also try to build up its reserves to be able to use in the future.

When residents consider the work and responsibilities of the Parish Council to maintain many village amenities, such as the examples listed below, the Parish Council feels the increased amount is good value for the community.  This is not an exhaustive list.

  • Adderbury Cemetery, including the Friends Meeting House
  • Grass cutting in the playing field/road side verges/Milton Road field
  • Adderbury Lakes
  • Traffic Calming
  • Walled Garden Allotments
  • Tree Work
  • Street Furniture replacement and repairs
  • Supporting Adderbury Library
  • Making grants to village organisations

The Parish Council hopes that residents understand the reasoning behind the Parish Council’s increase in the Precept this year.
